Urgent help

The Consular Services Charter sets the standards of services you can expect from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) and Trade when seeking consular assistance.  

For us to effectively provide consular assistance, we (DFAT) are required to collect, use and disclose an individuals’ personal information.

Information about how we collect, use, disclose and store personal information related to consular cases is contained in our Consular Privacy Collection Statement. Copies of the Statement are available online or by requesting a copy from the Department.

Australian citizens requiring consular assistance during regular business houses, may contact the Australian High Commission on +673 222 9435. Non-urgent assistance can also be sought by emailing [email protected].

For consular emergencies outside of business hours, contact the Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra on +61 2 6261 3305 or SMS +61 421 269 080.

Smartraveller

Smartraveller is a travel advisory and consular assistance service run by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and provides travel advice covering a range of issues including significant events that could impact you travel plans.

In a crisis, Smartraveller will activate a crisis page on its website. It will make it easier for you or someone you know to contact the Australian Government if you need help. It will supplement the consular emergency hotline.
