Passport Services/Notarial Services (by appointment)

The Australian High Commission counter hours for passport and notarial appointments are Tuesday mornings, Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings - except public holidays.  Appointments are required for all passport and notarial services.   When making a booking please also provide a direct contact telephone number though which you are readily contactable. 

Mode of Payment

 The Australian High Commission in Brunei does not accept cash. Please ensure you bring a Visa (including Visa Debit), MasterCard or American Express card for payment.  Payments will be charged in Australian dollar.  The total charge to a Brunei card account may vary depending on foreign exchange rates.

After Hours Consular and Passports Assistance
Australian Citizens who require urgent consular and passport assistance after normal working hours should contact the 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra, Australia, on +61 2 6261 3305 or SMS +61 421 269 080.

Travel information for Australians

Brunei's Syariah Penal Code has entered into force.   Travel advice can be found at the Smartraveller website.  The Australian High Commission, Bandar Seri Begawan, encourages all Australians living in or visiting Brunei Darussalam to subscribe to Smartraveller alerts.  This is a free email service to provide you with the latest updates to our travel advice.

Information notes attached to the various forms will usually include references to the legislation that is authorising the individual to witness signatures and clarify what category of witnesses is permitted to sign.

Please ensure that documents relating to the notarial services you require from the Australian Government/Embassy/Consulate, are presented in the correct form and that you provide the correct instructions for the notarial service you require. If you are unsure of the legislative requirements relating to the notarial service you require, you should seek independent legal advice. Please note that neither the Australian Government nor the Australian Embassy/High Commission/Consulate in Post/Country guarantees the legal effectiveness of the notarised document or the accuracy of its content. Fees paid for notarial services are non-refundable.

The Australian Passport Office has introduced a new portal for clients to complete their passport applications online. This will require clients to first register for an account before completing the passport application.

If clients face any issues when completing the passport application or during the account registration process, clients should email Austhicom.brunei@dfat.gov.au for advice and assistance.

All passport applications must be lodged in person by the applicant.  Children aged 16 and 17 years must attend the appointment along with a parent or a person with parental responsibility for the child. Children under 16 years are not required to attend the appointment. As outlined in the passport application form, standard turnaround time is three working weeks.  Once you receive a message from the Australian Passport Office in Australia, please book an appointment for collection.  If you prefer to have your new passport (along with your cancelled passport) delivered,  please bring a self-addressed, pre-paid (DHL or Fedex) envelope at the time of your application appointment. 

If, on compassionate grounds or for professional reasons, you wish to retain your current passport while waiting for your new passport to be ready,  please email austhicom.brunei@dfat.gov.au in parallel with your appointment booking. In this case, your new passport can not be posted to you but must be collected from our office. 

You may authorise another person to collect your passport on your behalf provided you complete an authorisation form at the time of application.  

Passport fees as at January 2019, to be paid by credit/debit cards in AUD.

  • Adult 10-year passport  – AUD $293  (plus overseas surcharge –AUD $132)
  • Adult  5-year passport for persons aged 75 and over - AUD $148   (plus overseas surcharge –AUD $64)
  • 10-year passport for persons aged 16 and 17 – AUD $293  (plus child overseas surcharge – AUD $64)
  • 5-year passport for children under 16 years - AUD $148 (plus child overseas surcharge – AUD $64)
  • Replacement passport will cost AUD$184 only.

Guarantor occupation groups:  Overseas lodgement include;

  • Registered Medical Practitioners
  • Dentists
  • Police Officers with at least 5 years continues service
  • Barristers, Solicitors and patent Attorneys
  • Judges
  • Bank Managers except managers of bank travel centres
  • Teachers who are full time and who have been teaching for more than five years at schools or tertiary institutions.
